In 1856 when the apothecary and chemist Wilhelm Carl Heraeus melted platinum for the first time on an industrial scale, he also laid the foundation of the future W. C. Heraeus GmbH. (today Heraeus Materials Technology GmbH & Co. KG and Heraeus Precious Metals GmbH & Co. KG)

A company film entitled "Competent in Precious Metals and Special Metals" tells the success story of the beginnings of W. C. Heraeus GmbH culminating in the present with today’s Heraeus Materials Technology.

Ever since then the internationally operating precious metal and technology group has continuously brought forward innovations, found uses for unusual technologies within industry and in so doing has developed into a competent international partner for all issues relating to the technical applications of precious and special metals.
